Using Web Audits to Attract Clients

You'll hear me say this time and time again…

Clients don't want web design. They don't want SEO either.

What they do want is more leads, customers and sales.

So if you want to sell your services, or least have a much easier time doing so, you're going to want to focus your attention around how your service is going to contribute to what they really want…more leads…more customers…more sales.

And if you're wondering how in the world you can do that, today I want to show you a way you can focus on ROI and even give yourself a task list to deliver these results all using web audits.

To do this, we're going to be using a tool called My Web Audit.

Try It Out & Grab a Deal

The easiest way to learn this process (albeit pretty easy), is to create an account so you can follow along with me as I show you how to do this. That's how you'll know if this is right for you.

In this video, I take you through how to create detailed and high value website audits in five minutes that your leads are actually going to be able to understand and to see the value in.

This allows you to present your findings and close the deal.

Now these audits work great both for prospective clients but also your current and past clients as. Don't forget to run audits on your current and past clients in order to add more value and create more work for yourself. This is a win-win.

These audits are going to demonstrate how your work is going to deliver an ROI for your clients business and it's also going to help you prioritize your work so you can actually deliver those results.

I've talked about tools before and I've even talked about when is the right time to invest in different types of tools. I shared different categories of tools and one of those categories is what i call revenue generating tools.

MyWebAudit falls into the category of revenue generating tools and as it helps you land more clients. Then turn around and deliver that value to your clients because you know exactly what you need to focus on to help them get more traffic, leads and sales into their business,

ROI Focused Website Audits

These audits are going to help you stay focused on some of these key areas that really focus in on driving those traffic, leads and sales to any business and those key areas are:

  • User experience
  • Conversion optimization
  • Performance and security
  • SEO and online visibility

And yes, you'll be able to see exactly how to do this even if you have no experience with this at all.

Once you sign-in to your dashboard and click on ‘New Audit,' you'll be able to select the type of report you want.

What's really nice about this is you are able to select the report that best reflects the service you want to offer and the needs of the clients.

Available Audit Reports

The audit reports currently offered are:

  • Website Audit
  • On Page SEO report
  • Landing Page Audit
  • Page Speed Insights Report
  • E-Commerce Website Audit
  • Google My Business (GMB) Audit
  • Competitive Analysis
  • Return on Investment (ROI) Analysis

If you take a look at the dashboard, you'll notice some audits are fully automated while others are manual + automated.

Fully Automated vs Manual + Automated Reports

Some reports like an on-page SEO report and page speed insights report can run fully automated without your input at all.

While other reports like the e-Commerce website audit and Google My Business (GMB) audit will need some manual input from you.

Luckily, that couldn't be any easier.

How to Run a Website Audit

There are 2 ways you can run a website audit. Both work the same way, they just take place in a different location.

  1.  From your MyWebAudit dashboard
  2.  From within the browser while on the website (using a Chrome extension)

Here we'll run an audit from within the MWA dashboard. If you prefer to use the Chrome extension, simply visit the website and then click on the MWA extension. From there, just follow the same process we cover below. I show you both options in the video above.

First, you'll need to enter the basic business info.

And then the audit begins.

Here is where you'll need to go through the manual checks. Remember those 4 key areas we talked about before?

This is where you're going to check the website for specific elements.

As you can see, MyWebAudit brings up the website on the left and pulls up a list of what to specifically check for under each category on the right.

Your job is simply to toggle the bar to green for pass and red for right.

So for example, the first check under User Experience is ‘Professional Website Design.'

If you get to one you are unclear about, simply hover your mouse over the question mark icon for more details.

Or better yet, watch the video above to see an actual audit.

Once you have completed the 4 sections of the manul audit, click on the green ‘Run Audit' button.

This will start the automated part of the audit.

Note: even though automation is highly attractive, it does make sense to slow down and take a few extra minutes to take a look at some specific points yourself. For areas like design, user experience, conversion optimization, etc., some of these pieces cannot be automated. This will also look more professional than sending a potential client an automated report in 2 minutes time.

Next, you'll be redirected to the dashboard while the audit runs. This typically finishes within 5 minutes unless the site is particularly large, has slow performance or you're on a really slow budget host. In that case it could take a bit longer.

Once the audit is done, you can go ahead and view & download the audit. The report can be generated as a Google reports, PDF powerpoint or excel report.

Sending the Web Audit to a Client

From within your MyWebAudit dashboard, you can now email the report directly to the client. Best part is, there are email templates that already exist inside your account that you can simply customize (if desired) and send.

Notice how you can simply drag and drop the key areas you want to focus on from the right sidebar to the email template. And when you do, the copy for that specific point of the audit will appear in the template.

I highly recommend that you present your findings on a phone call so you can take the next step. If a phone call isn't possible at the time, you can email a little bit of details and ask them to schedule a consultation so you can explain what you found.

You also have the ability to connect a client's Google Analytics account which will provide even more data and provide an even more personalized report.

Depending on your subscription, you can also choose to run a WordPress Technical assessment.

Re-Run Audit Reports

Re-running audit reports is a great way to demonstrate what has been done and look for any new issues that may have come up.

I recommend doing this for all clients on a quarterly basis. This is an excellent opportunity to get them back on the phone, see how their site is performing, address any concerns or desires they have and then create a website plan for the next quarter.

Yes, I'm saying stop spending so much time trying to find new clients before you spend time offering recurring or new services to the clients you already have. 🙃

The Audit Reports & Improving Client Conversations

The audit reports that are generated for you are very professional and it would take quite some time to put this together for each client.

If you're not completely sure what to say to clients or how to structure your conversations, having a visual for both parties to use is a great thing. This will help guide your conversation and will give the client something to look at besides just you!

Again, remember these conversations are about increasing their traffic, leads and sales and the recommendations on the report are what will help get them there.

Adding a Website Audit Lead Generation Widget to Your Site

Adding a lead generation widget to your website is a great way to offer value while collecting leads you can follow-up with in the process.

Luckily, MyWebAudit includes a website audit lead generation widget.

You have two lead generation options:

  1.  A form you can add to various locations of your site
  2.  A dedicated landing page

If you use the audit form, you'll want to place this above the fold so it is font and center. This will help you get more site visitors to complete the form.

As you can see above the widget, you have several offers for how you want this widget to look. The options include:

  • Hello bar
  • Lightbox
  • Welcome mat
  • Vertical
  • Horizontal

On the left hand bar you can fully customize the widget including colors, text, what happens after the form is submitted, auto-reply emails and more.

There are various landing pages depending on the type of audit you want to run and each landing page has done-for-you copy to use.

Similar to the audit, you are able to customize the heading, opt-in fields, what happens after the form is completed and the auto reply.

The Follow-Up

As soon as a lead completes a form, you'll be notified. This is when you want to follow-up with the lead so you can take it a step further.

Keep in mind, you can set the forms to run the automated + manual reports to that the client won't receive the report instantly. This tells them you are actually taking a live look at their website for them. Those reports will mean more to them and it only takes you a few minutes to do.

Wrapping Up

I hope this has given you a much better idea of exactly how MyWebAudit can help you not only generate more leads for your business but also help you be able to better present your findings to clients, really show your expertise and help give you a guided plan on how to help your clients generate more traffic , leads and sales.
